Tiepoint is a Norwegian technology company that develops autonomous systems for demanding environments. We combine cutting-edge AI with robust hardware to deliver solutions that work under Nordic conditions – from Arctic cold to challenging operational scenarios.
The company originates from the Andøya Space ecosystem and has, since 2010, built documented expertise in drone operations, regulations, and technological development – in close collaboration with research, defence, and emergency services. Our solutions are tested and used in real-world operations.
We collaborate with leading research and defence environments and offer a professional setting where you can work with pioneering technology alongside experienced colleagues. With us, you can influence the direction of the products we build.

AI department
In the AI department, we are building a small but highly effective team that combines research-driven innovation with practical delivery. We focus on object detection, tracking, reinforcement learning, and autonomy, and aim to be best-in-class for edge deployment in Nordic conditions. Our culture is hands-on: we design, train, optimise, and test in the field. We are looking for people who enjoy ownership, learn quickly, and are motivated by seeing AI systems work in the real world.
We are now expanding the team and are looking for one Senior AI/ML Engineer and one Junior Engineer / Data Scientist who want to help build world-class autonomy for drone systems.
What is expected of you as a Senior AI/ML Engineer?
As a Senior AI/ML Engineer, you will be a key contributor in the AI team and work broadly across the entire ML stack. You develop perception systems for object detection and tracking, autonomy systems based on reinforcement learning, and ensure that models run efficiently on edge hardware. The role requires someone who is equally comfortable experimenting in Jupyter and debugging performance on embedded systems.
You will, among other things:
- Develop and train deep learning models for real-time object detection and tracking.
- Implement autonomous systems based on reinforcement learning or classical methods.
- Adapt and optimise models for deployment on resource-constrained platforms (ONNX, TensorRT).
- Contribute to sim-to-real transfer and validate model performance in simulator environments.
- Take part in developing training and deployment pipelines as well as data collection and quality assurance.
What is expected of you as a Junior Engineer / Data Scientist?
As a Junior Engineer / Data Scientist, you get your entry point into autonomous systems and AI. You work closely with senior engineers and contribute broadly across the team – from data processing and tool development to running simulations and tests. The role is learning-intensive, well-guided, and offers the opportunity to develop in AI/ML, simulation, or MLOps, depending on your interests and strengths.
You will, among other things:
- Handle data processing, quality assurance, and data management.
- Run tests in simulators and on real hardware, analyse results, and report findings.
- Write scripts and tools for automation, analysis, and data handling.
- Contribute to scenario generation, environment development, and simulator test runs.
- Support the operation of ML pipelines and contribute to technical documentation.
What experience and competence do you bring?
For Senior AI/ML Engineer:
- Strong background in deep learning with PyTorch.
- Experience with either computer vision (object detection/tracking) or reinforcement learning.
- Knowledge of model optimisation for edge deployment.
- Experience with Python and Linux in development environments.
It is an advantage if you have experience with thermal/IR image processing, sensor fusion, robotics simulators (Gazebo, Isaac Sim), ROS/ROS 2, or MLOps tools.
For Junior Engineer / Data Scientist:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, robotics, data science, cybernetics, or a related field.
- Strong Python skills and comfortable with Linux.
- Curious and willing to learn new technologies quickly.
- Strong attention to detail and a systematic approach.
It is an advantage if you have basic knowledge of machine learning, experience with robotics simulators or game engines, or experience from hobby or school projects in robotics or drones.
It is required that you have a strong command of English, both written and oral. Skills in a Scandinavian language are an advantage. The positions involve work in the defence sector, and there may therefore be a requirement for the candidate to obtain security clearance.
Who are you as a person?
You are curious and analytical and enjoy solving complex technical challenges. You communicate clearly, take ownership of deliveries, and enjoy collaborating closely with colleagues across disciplines.
You work independently when needed, but understand the value of sharing knowledge and building competence together. You are motivated by seeing technology in action in the real world and are interested in applications in defence, security, or autonomous systems.
Personal suitability will be emphasised strongly.
What do you get by working at Tiepoint?
At Tiepoint, you get a central role in the development of autonomous systems of great importance for Norwegian defence and emergency preparedness. You will work closely with complex projects at the intersection of AI, robotics, and edge computing, in an environment where innovation and practical delivery go hand in hand.
We offer, among other things:
- Opportunity to work with state-of-the-art AI and machine learning on real autonomous systems.
- Close collaboration with leading research environments.
- A work environment characterised by high professional integrity, short decision lines, and high influence.
- Competitive terms and flexible arrangements.
- Professional development together with experienced colleagues.
- A unique combination of demanding technical challenges and proximity to spectacular nature.
Work and live at Andøya or in Skien?
The workplace is at one of Tiepoint’s offices at Andøya or in Skien. A hybrid arrangement with a home office is possible. Extensive travel activity must be expected in periods, in connection with campaigns and testing.
Andøya offers spectacular nature, a warm and inclusive local community, and a unique opportunity to combine work and quality of life. Here you can start the day with the glow of the midnight sun or the dance of the northern lights, and end it with a walk along the beautiful coastline. With short distances to both mountains and sea, Andøya is perfect if you want a life close to nature.
Skien and Telemark offer an attractive combination of city life, nature, and culture. With short distances to the archipelago, mountains, and great hiking areas, the region is perfect if you want an active life all year round. Here, the workday can easily be combined with outdoor activities, such as forest trips, boating, or mountain hikes. Skien has a strong cultural life, good transport connections, and proximity to the rest of southern Norway. The area offers safe conditions for children, an inclusive local community, and affordable housing, making Skien and Telemark a very good place to live and work.
